funäsdalen is Sweden's third largest ski area with the resorts Ramundberget, Bruksvallarna, Ljusnedal, Messlingen, Mittådalen, Tännäs, Fjällnäs, Hamra, Tänndalen and Funäsdalen.
The Funäsdalen mountains constitute the southernmost bare mountain area in Sweden, with numerous peaks rising higher than 1,000 metres. Helags, at 1,798 metres, has the southernmost Swedish glacier.
The cradle of mountain tourism. In 1882, Fjellnes Högfjells-pensionat welcomed the first mountain tourists in Sweden, the so-called 'air guests'.
The two Sami communities, Mittådalen and Tännäs, and several old mountain pastures still in operation, mix with other examples of culture to form a unique character.
Here live free and wild herds of musk ox, bear, wolf, wolverine, eagle and lynx.
The area has 24,500 tourist beds. The tourist information, FunäsdalsFjäll, does the booking for 13 hotels, 23 cottage villages and privately owned chalets.
The Funäsdalen mountains is the most snowsure resort in Sweden. According to Swedish official statistics, the largest amount of snow falls in the Funäsdalen area and at Riksgränsen, the northernmost resort.
We offer a Natural Snow Guarantee, meaning that at least five pistes and 20 km of cross-country trails should be skiable within the Funäsdalen area from 1 November to 30 April.
There are 29 restaurants, 10 dancing places and discos in the area.
During peak season, there is a continuous ski bus and taxi service for skiers on their way to the slopes or cross-country expeditions.
Coming down
Your breath is steaming. Fresh snow fell again last night and the pistes are freshly groomed and inviting with their corduroy surface. No lift queues so off you go. Pick another slope and begin skiing. You find the rhythm with the skis an integral part of your body. As you pass the half-pipe, a snowboarder suddenly appears in the air, in the middle of a jump. The grip is perfect, a few more turns and then you are on your way up again, just you, your skis and the pleasure of perfect skiing.

The world's largest slalom race takes place here every year, the first weekend in May with 1,000 competitors. We have hosted the races for 30 years running, please see: Natural Snow Guarantee!
Every lift, on average, can transport skiers 24,192,000 km every season, equal to a return trip to the moon. Summing up the capacity of all the lifts in the area, an astronaut would travel 1/6th of the distance to the sun.
The best thing about our queues is that they are non-existent. If you haven't had your fill at the end of the day, try night skiing.
Our grooming machines prepare some 1,400,000 km every year, or 3,5 laps around the world.
There are unlimited possibilities for off-piste skiing. You can reach fantastic areas by helicopter, ski-joring or with skins on your skis. Off-piste skiing is not a new adventure. During the Middle Ages, pilgrims travelled in the powder on their way to Nidaros (Trondheim).
The combination of large amounts of soft snow and wide expanses of ski area equals high quality skiing.

You start uphill, through the forests along meandering trails. Suddenly you arrive. The smell of fresh snow hits your nose. The sounds of silence from the vast expanses. The endless panorama over the white, pure landscape. A feeling of space and invigorating air. Take off your rucksack, peel an orange and turn your face to the sun. Those who are in a hurry, training, have long since passed. They are also happy here, in their own way.
The Nordic Ski Center has the longest tracks system, 300km of connected tracks, prepared by five grooming machines and snowmobiles, for classic style as well as skating technique.
The tracks of Nordic Ski run past most of the cottages and hotels in the area.
Comfortable snowcat ski-joring to one of the cafés on the mountain, followed by a snack and some sunning before the enjoyable return trip. 450 km of marked trails for easy access to the grand massifs.

Probably the most popular cross-country expedition runs from Bruksvallarna to Tänndalen/Fjällnäs. Get on the ski bus and return with the sun on your face.
Great for little ones

Off like bullets down the gentle slope. The teacher in the lead with all the red-cheeked laughing kids following. You see mainly helmets and ski boots with small quantities of child in the middle, enjoying the adventures of winter. Admire the big ones doing snowboard tricks, giggle at the man entangled in the lift. Hot chocolate with whipped cream and hot dogs by the fire. After a day outdoors, together, you fall into bed. New friends and experiences to remember until next winter or for the rest of your life.
The funäsdalen has been elected the best family ski resort in all Europe. The Härjedalen Fjällmuseum is an exciting attraction for all ages. There are play areas for children and the adults are fascinated by the unique culture.
In the area are 8 designated children's areas, with children's ski school, clubs, babysitters and lots of activities.

The ski schools in the Funäsdalen area are well known for their activities for children and youngsters. Every day is a new day of training, adventures and playing with new friends.

You can do it!
Your heart is pounding as the helicopter disappears behind the ridge. You position the sticks and off you go, down the untouched steep run. Yes, you can do it. Get on the sledge, behind the eager dogs and release the brakes. Of course - you dare. The ice axe fails to grip the glacier wall...Oh, there it is, a nice firm grip and you can continue upwards. Your pulse is rising with the speed, the snowmobile flies over the ice. Yes you can do it. You dare.
Afterski 1000 is an experience beyond the ordinary. The last weekend of April sees an abundance of activities and shows on the mountain, at 1000 metres.
The high range of mountains is an excellent ground for off-piste skiing. Join a guided peak trip. If you want to save your energy, you can ascend by helicopter, snowcat or snowmobile.
The musk ox has settled in the Funäsdalen area. Their ragged appearance is a reminder of prehistoric times. Guided tours are arranged.
Helags is the highest peak in Sweden, south of the Arctic Circle.
Ice-climbing the mighty ice falls on the Funäsdalsberget is a challenge for climbers from all over Europe. Beginner's courses are available.
Guided snowmobile safaris are arranged daily. Discover the mountains in a novel and comfortable fashion.
Dog sledge! A short or long trip, the sledge is drawn by 4-14 dogs.
Catch a big fish at one of the mountain lakes. Jigging rod, ice drill and reindeer skins can either be bought or rented.
